route in detail

Southern section of the Boundary Bay dyke in Delta. Walk southwest along the dyke toward Beach Grove with raptors over fields and shorebirds on the flats. Where the dyke ends, use quiet Beach Grove Rd for about 15 minutes rather than the boggy beach, rejoin at 12th Ave and enter Boundary Bay Regional Park, following the dyke east beside tidal flats and then south through dunes to Centennial Beach. Return on the dyke or an inland park trail.

Watch for: Exposed to wind and weather. Beach below Beach Grove houses is swampy. Strong birding in fall and winter (dunlin flocks, occasional snowy owls).

Best season: all year

good to know cam

Hi, I'm Cam Appleton. I love Vancouver and I love getting out on its trails. When I went looking for a simple, easy hiking guide for around here, I couldn't find one I liked. I also really like helping people, so I built this one.

My day job is real estate. I help people buy, sell and lease. I hope you're enjoying the start of Hike Vancouver. If you're thinking about living closer to trails like this one, I'm happy to talk.
